Review: Blindsided

Blindsided Blindsided by Emma Hart
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Leah Veronica is a closet fashion designer with a line of clothes under the name Lea V., who's trying to avoid getting famous riding on her mom's acting fame. Corey is a football player who hits on her one night at a club or party or something like that, and she doesn't jump at the chance to have him in her panties which intrigues him. After trying to avoid him, Lea finally gives in finally allows him to have one week to convince her she should date him. In a week you can fall in love or fall apart.

This was not a favorite book for me. I thought the characters were very shallow and annoying. Lea thinking she could hide her identity by using Lea V. as a brand name practically screamed that she was the creator. Also, Leah thinking that her whole world was falling apart because it leaked out was ridiculous. Corey was also shallow and being from Dallas ,Texas called her "Darlin" for the first few chapters every time he spoke to her. Being from Texas myself, I have never heard one 20-something guy call a woman "Darlin" even once, much less half a dozen times. Plus it seems the only football terminology the author knew was "interception", perhaps if Leah was a big a fan of football as she was touted to be she should've learned a few more words. With all that being said, the book is not horrible but it's not the best I've read this year either. Which is sad for me since I own a signed book purchased from an author event.

Review: Hula

Hula Hula by Lisa Shea
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can't say where I picked up this book, because I have no idea but it is a hauntingly realistic story about two young girls growing up in the 1960's. Their mom is a costume designer who works all the time, and their dad is suffering from severe PTSD. This story is written from the youngest girls perspective and almost reads like a factual account of her youth. Life was very different in the 60's and 70's than it is today and if you want a flashback into what it once was then this might be an interesting place to start.

It appears the author Lisa Shea has not written any more books, but I would be interested in finding out more about her.

Review: Floors

Floors Floors by Patrick Carman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked up this book at a thrift store for my boys with no idea about the story inside, and I'm so happy I did! This was a fun wacky adventure for my sons that kept them interested all the way to the end. I had to order the next two books in the series for them too.

After the owner of the Whippet Hotel has been gone for 100 days, Leo and his father the hotel maintenance man start to get worried. When a colored box shows up for Leo in the duck elevator (yes it is only used to transport ducks) his discovery of the hidden floors of the Whippet Hotel starts! Then comes the puzzles to solve and a friendship with Remi the new doorman, and then trying to avoid Ms. Sparks the hotel manager with a mean streak. Very exciting indeed!
Great book for elementary students.

Review: Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Behind Closed Doors" by B.A. Paris is a chilling story about the perfect marriage, well at least from the outside looking in. Perfect loving husband and adoringly perfect wife, but what you find out behind the scenes is pure fear for Grace and Jack just loves it all the more. If it were only Grace to worry about she could handle it, but her autistic little sister is planning to move with them when she graduates. I can only imagine the terror that Jack could inflict on Millie if he got his hands on her!
If you love psychological thrillers, then this book is sure to be a favorite of yours!

Remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side!!!

18+ for situations. The book does have possible triggers for victims of abuse/kidnapping.

"Behind Closed Doors" was provided to me by St. Martin's Press in exchange for my honest review, all thoughts and words are purely my own and no one else's.

This book releases in the US on August 9th!

Review: Splintered

Splintered Splintered by Kelly Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Splintered" by Kelly Miller is a psychological thriller about Maddy a 15-year-old girl who fakes an attempted kidnapping, but then regrets it when she gets bullied at school by her peers. So when she really gets kidnapped the police think she ran away and hesitate to believe it's real after wasting so many man hours the previous time. Hank has psycho DNA running through his veins but kept it locked away in order to take care of his mentally challenged brother, but when he sees Maddy on the evening news he can resist no longer.... he has to have her to "train".

"Splintered" to me is a modern retelling of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" but with a teenage girl and a psycho instead. Those who usually fake a situation find themselves in that predicament for real. The characters are realistic of portrayals of people who could be family, friends, or neighbors. And the crime committed could've been ripped from today's news. A scary situation that I hope no one has to go through. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I thank KindleScout for giving me the opportunity to review it.
There are lots of triggers here for anyone who has been kidnapped or had an abusive upbringing.
18+ for adult situations and abuse

Review: Deep Blue

Deep Blue Deep Blue by Yolanda Olson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Deep Blue" by Yolanda Olson is a twisted, trigger ridden, psychotic read. This is not a book for those looking for a happy ever after. It has a touch of twisted love story but mostly filled with depravity that's like a train wreck to read. You want to look away but it sucks you in and you have to find out how ends. On that note, I really enjoyed this book and its twisted storyline.

Posy is a 17-year-old runaway who hooks up with Troy a twenty-something hottie with the deepest blue eyes she's ever seen. Unfortunately for her he and others in town trade girls/young women amongst other like minded men for anything their twisted minds can think up. As soon he gets his hands on her he immediately trades her for another girl until she's appropriately ready for him. Unknownst to her he suffers from a traumatic brain injury that causes him to fluctuate between sweet cowboy and sadistic maniac. Seven years later he goes to collect her and then it gets even worse.

Review: Ask Me Again

Ask Me Again Ask Me Again by Tracy March
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a sweet tasty preview of a longer book that I forget the name of right now. I liked this but honestly felt a little lost because the full story wasn't there. And no I didn't realize it was only a preview when I downloaded it.

Travis and Emily's families have been feuding for years but they're in love, will Travis risk it all and propose to his girl or deny them their happy ever after?

Review: True Love Way

True Love Way True Love Way by Mary Elizabeth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is one of the best books I've read this year, my only regret is that I didn't open my copy sooner. I picked my paperback up from Mary Elizabeth a book event I attended because I was seduced by the free heart-shaped glasses. I had no idea what this book was about, but I can tell you it is now one of my favorite books and I have added Mary Elizabeth to my list of fave authors too.

Dillon and his friends pause on their bikes when they see a moving van pull in the next driveway and a cute tween girl wearing shorts, funky shaped sunglasses and carrying a box. Penelope's family moved to town in hopes of building a new life after her dad gets the coaching job at the local school. Dillon knows Pen is different from the start but he can't help be linked to her in every way. Pen hides behind her variety of sunglasses believing that she's reasonably invisible to outside world. She suffers from severe depression and the only person who can help her feel better is Dillon. He helps her with sadness and madness, and everything in between; but what happens when it gets to be too much? Will he get tired of it and move on will he continue to do it True Love Waye?
"True Love Way" was such an in depth story into what some people suffer if they have depression. A love story with so much heart that it reveals itself in little ways and you know you're not going back no matter what. I felt Pen's sadness and madness, and could almost hear her laughter. Quite simply, I love this book!!! It brought back summers as a kid and first loves.

Review: Over My Live Body

Over My Live Body Over My Live Body by Susan Israel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Over My Live Body" by Susan Israel is a suspenseful page turner. When Delilah kicks her abusive boyfriend out, she finds out that she's been getting anonymous phone calls from a man everyday and he refuses to leave his name. The phone calls continue and she thinks that maybe it's Ivan , her ex, but when she reports it to the police no one takes it serious until Detective Quick. He wants her to hide but she's a sculptress/ nude model and refuses to give up her modeling or art, even for a stalker. But when people start turning up dead, she starts to rethink her actions. Will it be too late or will they be able to find her stalker first?

I didn't want to stop reading this book and was happy to find out it is part of an ongoing series. I liked the characters and the story evolution, and the fact that story didn't have a quick resolution.

Review: Spark

Spark Spark by Erin Noelle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Crew and his family move to Colorado in search of medical marijuana as a possible treatment for his brother Caleb's epilepsy, he finds so much more. While staying at the Fire on the Mountain Inn he finds a spark with one of their daughters, Hudson. Hudson and her dad are the growers of marijuana, and Hudson vows to create a strain of weed that will hopefully heal or at least lessen the severity of Caleb's seizures. While the love seems to grow between Crew and Hudson a tragedy burns up all their hopes, when the smoke clears will their relationship survive?

I really loved the storyline in "Spark" and loved how Erin Noelle incorporated such a touchy political subject like legalization of marijuana with a romance. I liked Crew for the most part and I really liked Hudson and her quirky family a lot. I would say this is for 18+ due to the subject matter but definetly a great read.

Review: 6 Feet Under: Romance of The Dark Gods

6 Feet Under: Romance of The Dark Gods 6 Feet Under: Romance of The Dark Gods by Brenda Manson
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I recommend you read "In Too Deep" before reading "6 Feet Under" because I was a little lost starting with this 17-page book . I'm not going to say it was great, but it wasn't horrible either.

Nora was a human that I believe killed her mother in order to protect her little sister Emerson, but she was also soulmate to a vampire named Kiernan. After persuading Nora to live with him in a cabin in the woods, she's in a car accident that changes all their plans. I won't share the whole story since there is very little to it.
I think this would've been better if the whole story was presented at once instead of approximately 20 pages each. Will I read the rest? Probably not, but who knows I make pick up the rest of this at a later date. I don't like books divided up in very small tasters like this.

Review: Bloodlust

Bloodlust Bloodlust by Nicole Zoltack
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Bloodlust" takes us on a thrill ride to a rich fantasy world created by Nicole Zoltack, also known for her Superhero series "Heroes of Falledge" and her newest series "Magic Incarnate". Ivy is a barbarian princess trying to save her people from annihilation by the Trolls, Elves, and Goliaths. Lukor is a Goliath out to kill every Barbarian because they killed his sister Lucia, but in a twist of fate, he falls for the barbarian princess. Can their feelings for one another keep Ivy from destroying him with the Bloodlust and can Lukor move beyond his need for revenge and save his own people in the process?

Ivy is a kick ass female warrior with a strong sense of family and commitment. Lukor is a strong intelligent alpha male with pride in his people and his heritage and will do anything to ensure it survives. There is romance and adventure in this book with some graphic violence, but would be a great book for the young adult or adult without all the descriptive sex scenes. If you like historical type fantasy worlds with an alternate type world twist, then this is probably going to be a great story for you too!

Review: Rocking a SECRET

Rocking a SECRET Rocking a SECRET by Crystal Perkins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Rocking a Secret" by Crystal Perkins is about Kace, who's a member of a boy band, being blackmailed by some unknown suspect. Stella is a stylist and a member of a secret society that helps women and children with problems a la "Charlie's Angels" style. Stella and Kace are immediately attracted to one another but the blackmailer is out to ruin any romantic hope they have to be with one another and hurt the ones they love .
This is a good book, but I'm not much into "boy bands" so this wasn't my normal choice to read. I do like the secret society aspect with all women agents and of course the romance aspect of it. I also did not see the person who did it as the suspect, so that was a big surprise. There were a couple of more surprises too, so overall this is a good read. Although this is book three in the series it is a stand alone.

Review: Weekend Surrender

Weekend Surrender Weekend Surrender by Lori King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After her boyfriend of two years cheated on Rachel and she puts on her sexiest barely there skirt, boots, and a tied shirt showing off her belly piercing, she goes to hang out at his favorite bar to pick up any sexy man to rock is socks off. But instead of getting one offer she gets 4, and not just any four men but the hottest men in town, the ones her wet dreams have been made of, the Brooks brothers. When Hudson, Parker, Sawyer, and Rogan invite her back to their ranch for a weekend of sex with no strings for the weekend, they're hoping that they can convince her that she's meant to be with all of them forever. Every man has always left Rachel behind, would the Brooks be any different? Can she give her heart as well as her body?

Dang this was some scorching hot situations, some amusing banter, and some sad moments, but all in all this is exactly what you would expect: one hot as hell sex ride. I'm not going to say I agree with their situation but what woman hasn't fantasized about having 4 handsome men to satisfy all her needs!
18+ for explicit sexual scenes and language

Review: The Bone Road

The Bone Road The Bone Road by Lorca Damon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"The Bone Road" by Lorca Damon is my first dystopian read this year, mainly due to the fact that I've been engrossed with romance books that I really should have completed last year. I dove into the book without reading the blurb so I had no idea what the story was about, and was pleasantly surprised at the depth of characters and detail that sucked me in.

Xander heads out from jail into the unknown outside the walls meant to keep him safe in hopes of completing a task. He wasn't prepared for what he found outside the walls: villages of people that live without any of the comforts he is accustomed to, dangerous animals running wild, people just trying to survive the harsh realities that have been thrust upon them. When they send him off with a 10-year-old girl as his guide, he realizes that he underestimates her abilities and has to reassess his own estimation of himself and put his ego aside. They face dangers that I hope no one ever has to face.

"The Bone Road" made me look at the political climate and consumer society that we live in with new eyes, and unfortunately, this is a possible alternate reality for us all. Hopefully, we get ourselves together enough to avoid this future for our children.

My copy was obtained through Instafreebie, but you can get your copy from Amazon with this link:

Review: Out of the Box Everlasting

Out of the Box Everlasting Out of the Box Everlasting by Jennifer Theriot
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Out of the Box Everlasting" by Jennifer Theriot is book three in this series about Ash and Olivia, an older couple, who find love with one another despite the family and life dynamics that could rip their happy family apart. Between lies, and leftover crap from previous marriages, thankfully they work it all out and come out on top.
I went through a myriad of emotions while reading this story: happiness, anger, sadness, understanding, joy, anger and disappointment, shock, wtf, irritated, and finally contentment. When you read the book you'll understand what I mean, but I won't give any of that away. Although I'm younger than the couple in the book, I have really enjoyed this couple and their journey to find love even though they are closer to my parents age than mine. I think they're very young at heart and that makes them appealing to me. This series is intriguing in its dynamics and depth of character but still kept realistic in their emotions. Don't be afraid to check out this second chance love story!

Review: Fifty Percent Vampire

Fifty Percent Vampire Fifty Percent Vampire by D.K. Janotta
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Fifty Percent Vampire" is a different take on the whole vampire story. Astrid is born to a human and a vampire, but her father dies while trying to reclaim the family fortune. Her mother tries to raise her solo but ends up marrying her brother in law in order to protect Astrid from other vampires out to destroy her uniqueness. Astrid has her heart set on trying out "being human" and moves in with her Aunt, cousin, and Uncle, all goes well until her fellow high school students start turning up dead with two puncture wounds in their necks. She has a crush on the local "hero" cop Mike, but she's too young for him so he tries to stay away. Her name keeps popping into every investigation he has until he has to question whether she's the one doing it or not!

I enjoyed "Fifty Percent Vampire" and its different way of telling a story about a girl who grows older like a human, but drinks blood like a Vamp. Astrid was angsty but very real in her pain of being bullied and trying to fit in. I also thought I knew who was behind the killings but was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

Review: Loner

Loner Loner by Holley Trent
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Loner" is book two in Norseton Wolves series, and a stand-alone short novella. Stephanie, a half-breed werewolf spent too many years being on the outside of her fathers pack criticized for what she assumed were "shortcomings". Darius was kicked out of his pack at 9 years old for showing Alpha traits and survived by staying in wolf form for too many years before finding his current pack. When the Alpha puts out a mating call for Stephanie decides this is her chance for happiness and grabs it, Drake dreads the possible mating but longs for it too. Is it possible that the Alpha and the Goddess will match up the right women and men?

"Loner" is a steamy, but sweet read. A little different than the majority of shifter books I've read in the past. Drake is Alpha but not living up to his potential for greatness and hopefully through Stephanies strengths he will. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series and potentially other Holley Trent books.

Review: Chasing Magic:

Chasing Magic: Chasing Magic: by Gena D. Lutz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Chasing Magic" by Gena D. Lutz is an amusing novella length story that tells the tale of Anika, a witch facing her final exam, her boyfriend Drake, and her ex-best friend Tamara and the incident of a spell gone wrong. When Tamara in a fit of jealousy sabotages Anika's spell casting, Drake helps Anika chase down the evil that escaped. Can they save the town of innocent humans and save day?

I gave "Chasing Magic" 3.5 stars because although this is an amusing story with likable characters, I needed more background on them in order to care what happened and understand them more. I liked the ending but felt there was a little more story to be told to lead up to it. All in all, this is a good book, especially if you're looking for a light hearted read.

Review: The Billionaire & The Barfly

The Billionaire & The Barfly The Billionaire & The Barfly by Adrianne James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Aubrey is a personal assistant at Viola video game company, which she does an amazing job at. So when she gets an opportunity to work in marketing she goes out to the neighborhood bar and runs into Henry a "Hot Nerd" with a penchant for comic book superheroes. Their attraction is tangible, but Aubrey doesn't do relationships, she likes to use them for one night and toss them back. So when she finds he works or rather is the "Maximus" in Maximus Gaming, she feels betrayed. Henry refuses to let her go and makes her face the truth..... her life is just an empty shell of what it could be.

I really didn't like Aubrey from the start, but she grew on me as the story unfolded and she actually started to take responsibilities for her actions. Henry, I really liked for his sincerity, sexiness, and single-minded focus on Aubrey. He helped Aubrey grow as a person with love and understanding. By the end of the book, I loved them together but was disappointed the story didn't go on a few more chapters to provide a wedding and children or something. I wanted a definitive happy ever after for them. I'm hoping Adrianne James continues this story.

Review: Birthday Love Dilemma: Sensual Version

Birthday Love Dilemma: Sensual Version Birthday Love Dilemma: Sensual Version by Thalia Brynn
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

"Birthday Love Dilemma" is a short story about Nathan who's family owns a company and his wife Kira who works there. It just happens to be his birthday and Kira has to work late, which has Nathan a little depressed. But Kira had a surprise for him or was it the other way around?

I honestly did not care for this story at all. There was not enough character development to connect with Kira and Nathan, as well as the lacking storyline. The basic idea is good but needs a lot more detail to have the reader connect. The "sensual" parts were good.

It seems this book is no longer available from Amazon where I downloaded in the first place.

Review: Outback, Housecall

Outback, Housecall Outback, Housecall by Mark D Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Outback, Housecall" takes us on a visit out at a station in the Outback for the local doctor to check on a patient and visit an old friend that lost her husband a few years back. Their attraction for one another is obvious and things progress as they should. Then comes the surprise twist you didn't see coming. This is a naughty indulgence for sure, but way too short to be fully satisfying.

I really like Mark Davis poetry so I was excited to read this novella. I liked the storyline very much, but the writing style didn't quite work for me. I felt no connection to the characters at all which was disappointing due to the fact the storyline and action were steamy. The story flowed beautifully and I wish I could be more specific as to what didn't work for me, but I'm unable to pinpoint what it is at this moment.

If you like a short steamy read and have a kinky side, "Outback, Housecall" might just be a perfect read for you! Here's the link for the book on Amazon:

Review: Unexpected Surprises

Unexpected Surprises Unexpected Surprises by Janet A. Mota
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When a drunk driver wipes out Kat's family in one hit, she's left picking up the pieces of her life. In order to cope, she begins writing books. During an attempt to pull herself out a deep depression, meets up with her childhood crush, Rey. Rey has been in the military and was on leave in Portugal when he finally was reunited with his childhood crush. They both decide to take a chance and try to give their continuing attraction a chance. Kat is broken but after five years maybe its time to move on.

This was a heartbreaking story, the kind of tragedy you never want to endure, but out of the pain a love grew stronger than the one that came before. "Unexpected Surprises" made my cry for Kat, but I also cheered for her when she fell into Rey's arms. I smiled at their happy ending, and prayed for a miracle for them.
For me the only drawback to this book was I don't like to be told every step they make, such as" I picked up a glass and placed it on the counter." A little less of that and I would give it 5 stars.

Review: Black Balled

Black Balled Black Balled by Andrea Smith
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I will start out by saying I don't read many Male/male books, but this one sucked me into the story from the beginning. With Babu's rude opinions of indie books, it was like seeing a train wreck and not being able to look away. Then with Larson's alpha male attitude and inability to not respond to the criticism..... well I was hooked. Then the chemistry was off the charts when they finally got together, brought to mind "Love in an Elevator" by Aerosmith. "Black Balled" also looked at the real human side of why some people feel the need to lash out at others, but of course, Troy's (Babu) reason where personal and legitimate, thankfully he was able to work through them by the end.

What did bother me about this book.... the fact that the followers of Babu's book reviews would fully "black ball" a book based solely on his opinion. I do read reviews, but if the book appeals to me from the blurb then I go ahead and read it. Not everyone will like a book and that's ok. This book may not be for everyone, but honestly, I loved this book! I even surprisingly did not skip over sex scenes because they were well written and sexy, unlike a few I have read that were downright raunchy as hell. I loved the whole alpha male versus alpha male, and glad they both retained their man card throughout the book. Testerone is sexy as hell!

Review: The Cover of Love

The Cover of Love The Cover of Love by Courtney Shockey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"The Cover of Love" is the debut book for author Courtney Shockey, and it is a mindf***! Don't get me wrong I love this book, but it will leave you trying to wrap your mind around why Jodie did the things she did. It takes you through her childhood and on into adulthood, where things become even more strange as the years pass. This is the first book in the trilogy and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Jodie survived through a very rough childhood and teen years, to finally lead a "normal" life. Her wonderful adoring husband, Flynn, and their son Paul are the most important people in her life. The secrets that she hides can and will lead to total destruction of all she holds dear, or will it? Everyone knows "You protect the ones you love", no matter the cost.
"The Cover of Love" is a novella length at around 150 pages, but ends at a good stopping point so it doesn't feel like a cliffhanger. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers so this is great for me, also book two "The Shadow of Hope" is already out so I can dive into that very soon!

"Cooking with The Crazy Lady Authors" is an awesome collection of recipes sure to please everyone's palate! There are simple dump recipes, delicious desserts, international foods, party foods, and drinks too!
If you're a cookbook lover as well as a book lover like me, then this is a great addition to your collection! Among my favorite recipes are: Creme Brulee French Toast and Chocolate Martini by Angela Ford, Creamy Green Chili Enchiladas and the homemade Kahlua recipe by Jennifer Theriot, Green Bean Tortellini Soup by Aubree Lane, Niles' Mapletini and Brownie Doom by Diane Rinella, Chicken Cacciatore and Cinnamon cookies by Kelly Cozzone, and Green Chili Hash by Jami Brumfield. Interspersed with humorous kitchen mishaps makes this a fun cookbook! I'm hoping that they put another out in the future!

Review: Only My Love

Only My Love Only My Love by Jo Goodman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

"Only My Love" is a western romance of Micheal a reporter traveling with her fellow reporters on a train that gets robbed by Ethan and cohorts , and gets kidnapped in the process. Ethan is an undercover federal Marshall that is posing as an explosives expert in order to catch the robbers. In order to keep his identity a secret he keeps Michael in the dark about who he is in hopes that he can keep them from killing her. Sparks between the two of them make it hard to keep away from one another, but with Micheals sass with it get them both killed?

"Only My Love" is a re-release of a 1992 book by Jo Goodman. It's a romantic western that happens during the Gold Rush in Denver. Michael is a stubborn female reporter for the New York newspaper, "Chronicle", and the bastard child of a wealthy man. I enjoyed this book, but it really did remind me of the books I read in the 90's, good for the time period but not something I would normally pick up now.

Review: Novel Desire

Novel Desire Novel Desire by Genevieve Scholl
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When successful author Viviene is asked to address the graduating class of her former high school she comes face to face with her high school crush, David. She tries her best to avoid him due to the fact she used him as the basis of her main character in her novel. When a strange woman approaches her and claims that she put a love spell in her book, things get confusing when David confesses his attraction . Is it possible that she is witch and David is under a love spell or is he really in love with her?

I enjoyed reading "Novel Desire" and found it to be a quick and interesting story line. I love stories about people who find that they are something they didn't know about.

Review: Deltora Quest: Special Edition, Books 1-4

Deltora Quest: Special Edition, Books 1-4 Deltora Quest: Special Edition, Books 1-4 by Emily Rodda
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read "Deltora Quest, books 1-4" to my boys and it was a complete hit with them. It was the first epic type adventure book I've read to them where the characters had a quest or multiple quests to perform before saving their world. They're both advanced readers and loved the Magic Treehouse series so I thought I would try this one out on them. Having picked up the hardback copy at a thrift store I took a chance. Before I even finished the book they asked for me to get the rest of the story so we could finish it. My hubby and I took turns reading it and were just as interested as the boys to hear every word, and I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good quest like tale. Barda, Leif, and Jasmin are looking for the 7 stones to restore the Belt of Deltora to its previous power in order to overthrow the evil Shadow Lord, and encounter lots of danger at every turn. Very Exciting! I ordered a book from Amazon that has books 5-8 in it so we'll continue reading about Deltora tonight.

Review: Protecting Cheyenne

Protecting Cheyenne Protecting Cheyenne by Susan Stoker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Protecting Cheyenne" is book five in the Seal of Protection series for Susan Stoker, and it did not disappoint. This time, Cheyenne, a 911 operator, is grocery shopping during a robbery at a store where she's taking hostage. Dude, a Navy Seal, is called in as an explosives expert. Cheyenne volunteers to have the bomb strapped to her body in order to save the other hostages because she feels that she has no one that needs her or wants her.

This is very typical of this series to have a very hot alpha Navy Seal to come in and rescue the female who is trapped in a dangerous situation. I love hero stories and this one did not disappoint me! The females always seem to be a little less than perfect, but yet perfect for the hero in the story. If you like these types of stories then I highly recommend this series!

Review: Dry Spell

Dry Spell Dry Spell by Vi Keeland
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

"Dry Spell" is a free newsletter freebie from Vi Keeland. It's a short steamy read that left you wanting a full story instead. It was more like a teaser of what could be such a great storyline. Ava and Smith's characters are very likeable and I hope the author decides to write them a full story.

Review: Nightmare House

Nightmare House Nightmare House by Dax Varley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Nightmare House" is about three teens that go to a house that is rumored to be haunted. They go thinking that it's for a story for the school paper, but it's not . One of them has an ulterior motive that he keeps to himself. What occurs can only be thought of as creepy and scary.

My rating for this book is a 3.5 stars. This is a short story or novella for the young adult but would be enjoyable for adults too. I enjoyed reading the story, but wasn't so creeped out I couldn't sleep. I did find one part a little disappointing, the ending. It's no so much as how it ended but the action at the end is a little confusing and I found myself having to reread it to understand what happened.

Review: Love Reborn

Love Reborn Love Reborn by Victoria Bright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Whitney meets Ahmad at a modeling event she's covering for her magazine "Hot Miami", she thinks that he's beyond sexy. When Ahmad's friend Anthony bets him " a date of his choosing" in a poker game, Ahmad dreads it. When he chooses Whitney as the date after seeing her at the gym, Ahmad rethinks his attitude. While their attraction grows so does his guilt, the guilt from losing his fiancee in a car accident and barely not losing their daughter in the process. Whitney gets tired of his hot and cold routine and walks away. Three years has been long enough to mourn the loss of Camille hasn't it? And Ahmelia deserves to have a mom, so why can't he move on? It might take some divine intervention to help Ahmad move on.

Overall I really liked this story, but I felt that Paris' part in the story wasn't quite as developed as it could've been. The premise was great, and I loved her in the story but it just seemed to be lacking a little something to make it perfect. Ahmelia is adorable, Whitney and her friends Carlos and Lynne are funny, and Anthony and the others were great supporting characters.

Review: Breaking the Rules Series Box Set

Breaking the Rules Series Box Set Breaking the Rules Series Box Set by K. Webster
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The "Breaking The Rules" is a series about three best friends, Andi, Pepper, and Olive. The girls are friends but all have a broken past that keeps them from moving forward into serious relationships with men. When they find there men there are so many obstacles that must be worked through within themselves and together that it keeps you tied to the book in hopes that it works its way out for their happy ending.

When I first started reading it I had no idea what I was going into, I had this downloaded on my MoonReader either by being gifted by the author or perhaps Instafreebie. It is a full 3 book set of approximately 500+ pages on ebook, but the story has great pacing and you get sucked right in! There are 2 more books after this that I was not aware about until now, so I need to put those on my TBR list.

18+ due to some hard topics that could cause triggers for some ie: overdosing, stalker, abusive ex. It is in small doses but I want you to be aware of it. Also sex scenes and some language.

Here's the link for this set if you're interested in it:

Review: Contradictions

Contradictions Contradictions by Tiffany King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tressa is a known party girl, but when a fraternity hazing goes wrong and ends in a senseless death she becomes depressed and falls more behind on her school work. When the Dean puts her on academic probation and assigns a tutor for her, the reality of her situation wakes her from the numbness she had been existing in. To make matters worse her tutor is none other than "Clark Trent",as she likes to call him, a "nerd" from her hometown that her bestie says is perfect for her. Of course, they're complete opposites in all departments, he's smart and she obviously is not. Unknown to her Trent has always had a crush on her and looks forward to trying to change her mind about him.

I really enjoyed the story line in this book and liked the whole party girl meets nerdboy. It had just the right amount of conflict, humor, and romance to keep it interesting.

Review: The Eyes of Vengeance

The Eyes of Vengeance The Eyes of Vengeance by Teri Riggs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"The Eyes of Vengeance" is book two The Kennedy O'Brien Mysteries and a great follow up to "The Eyes Die Last". Detective O'Brien is caught up in a murder investigation that has the police baffled when the murderer seems to know their every step. The men involved in the homicides all have a connection from years back that may be the cause of their demise. One of the victims happens to be Mayoral hopeful Nick Campenelli's mentor, which of course brings the hottie businessman into Kennedy's vicinity more than she wants, or so she tells herself. Can they solve the case before all the Consortium members are murdered, or will the police fail to "Protect and Serve"?

I really like this series a lot and find it reminiscent of 80's cop/detective shows. It has a touch of romance but a lot of action that keeps your interest to the end.

Review: Sally Jones: The tragic loss of a young mother

Sally Jones: The tragic loss of a young mother Sally Jones: The tragic loss of a young mother by Justin Carver
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Sally Jones" is a very short story about a teenage mom named Sally, and what happens to her after the reversal of Roe vs Wade. This is a short real life tragedy written by someone that Sally had touched emotionally through their job. Perhaps it might change your viewpoint or at least give you a more understanding look at those affected.

Review: A Curse of Wings

A Curse of Wings A Curse of Wings by Kara Legend
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"A Curse of Wings" is what appears to be a promising start to a series that began in 2014, unfortunately it appears the author has written no more in the series which saddens me. I don't remember how I got my ebook, but I am assuming I got it from the author at some point.
Bliss was taken in by her now "Uncle" Darl after her parents were either taken or killed at age 10. He runs the trade between the "Fehin" which is the Demon possessed human bodies that live in the forests. She's sent alone to make a trade of Christmas ornaments with them and things go south quickly, to the point that she has to run for her life. Somehow a mysterious stranger shows up and saves her, but he holds many secrets about who he is and even holds the key to her past, which she has forgotten.
I hope the author releases a book two soon and is not another great author who disappears into the nether.

"One of These Nights" is a nice collection of experiences that one woman has over the course of a year or so. Tales of a beautiful curvy woman who explores her sexuality in different situations and becomes more empowered as they progress. A very sexy read, but unfortunately it ends too soon!

Review: The Man With The White Face: An Urban Legend

The Man With The White Face: An Urban Legend The Man With The White Face: An Urban Legend by Micah Ackerman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

"The Man With The White Face" is a made up urban legend story that has the making of a really awesome movie, but the story needs a little more work to live up to its potential. The main character is a 12-year-old boy that ends up getting kidnapped by the local urban legend. Of course, it's confusing as to why he doesn't try harder to get away or why he seems a little resigned to his fate. He's placed in a room where he's forced to watch things that would scar anyone for life.
The conclusion was a little predictable, but it would've been more shocking if he had fought harder earlier. It did have a nice little twisted storyline, but not anything that would give me nightmares.

Review: Scarlet Magi

Scarlet Magi Scarlet Magi by Nicole Zoltack
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Scarlet Magi" by Nicole Zoltack is book 3 in the Heroes of Falledge series. I think this book and the first book "Black Hellebore" are my favorite in the series because they were very exciting.
This book picks up after Justina has returned from the dead in Gavina's body and she is trying to learn to control the new body as well as the young witches magic. Without the Black Hellebore around now, Falledge was in need of a new Superhero when the new villian shows up in town and a string a bodies are found. Will Justina be able to save the people of Falledge or are they all doomed?
I originally didn't like Justina at all, but this book turns her character around for me and in the end I was thrilled with the ending of this book. I'm not sure if Nicole Zoltack has more books in this series planned, but if she did I would definitely read them!
If you're looking for a clean yet exciting superhero series then the Heroes of Falledge series is a good one.

Review: Catalyst

Catalyst Catalyst by Leighton Riley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG "Catalyst"!!! This is such a dark read and I'm still trying to wrap my head around the story itself. It's complicated and twisted in it's perfection.

When Tinsley's boyfriend is murdered in her bars storeroom she struggles to move on to a new future, when he was her future and all she ever wanted. Soon after Liam's death his father sells the home and kicks her out, but the home happens to get bought by a former college classmate of hers. He's obviously interested in her, and she eventually realizes that Liam will never be coming back she gives in to the attraction. She gets weirded out when she starts receiving texts from Liam's phone, is he sending them from the grave or is someone playing a cruel joke?

I was shocked where this story line went and didn't see it coming until I was deep in to it. "Catalyst" does have triggers for anyone who may have been abducted or raped, and it might be better to pass over the book if those things affect you. There is a great conclusion to this twisted tale, but you have to go through some hell before you get there.

Review: Me and My Mummy

Me and My Mummy Me and My Mummy by Dan Greenburg
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was our first "The Zack Files" book and I doubt it will be our last. Although "Me and My Mummy" is a chapter book, it is a short chapter book. It has about 60 or so pages and gets straight into the story and drops hints of previous adventures of Zacks.
In this book Zack ventures down to the basement and opens a mummy case, thinking he's cursed, he's at first terrified of the mummy. Sometimes you can't judge a mummy by its wrappings and it turns out Icky is a pretty cool mummy.
There are some funny things that happen and I found my kids giggling while I was reading, such a wonderful sound. :-)

Review: Stories from Around the World

Stories from Around the World Stories from Around the World by Heather Amery
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read "Stories from Around the World" to my kids as part of their bedtime reading. They really enjoyed the different stories as well as being read too. They can read the stories by themselves already but love bedtime stories. This is an interesting collection of stories from various countries that have been passed around as fables to teach or to entertain, and it works and helps to expose your child to history or even to cultural differences. Some stories are funny, but others were just interesting.

Review: Blind

Blind Blind by Xavier Neal
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Maxx' friend Erin convinces her to get a job as the ring girl for the local fight bar, her best friend Logan starts to take notice. I mean after all, how could he not with all the provocative outfits she wears. Maxx has been in love with Logan as far back as she can remember, but he continues to keep her in the "friend zone", what does she have to do to get out of it and into his arms for more than a cuddle and a movie. Logan is attracted to Maxx but refuses to let it go beyond that because of fear, fear that he's no good for Maxx. Will he overcome his fear and dive into what could be the best relationship of his life?
OMFG "Blind" from Xavier is a freaking amazing beginning to what promises to be an awesome series!! Jeesh, I thought that the characters were realistic, sexy, funny, and could be my best buddies. The inner convos they had with themselves added that touch of hilariousness that some books lack. I bought this paperback from the author herself at a book event in San Antonio and couldn't wait to read it. The only downside to me is that this is a series so each book ends on a cliffhanger..... and I don't like cliffhangers! The upside is that there are 8 other books in this series that are currently out.

Review: FIND ME - Part One

FIND ME - Part One FIND ME - Part One by Michelle Mankin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Find Me" by Michelle Mankin is part one in a three part story, which honestly I hate when books are split up into 100 page books instead of a full book in one. But this book not only has a hot cover model, but it has a very hot realistic story line that pulls you in.
After catching her music mogul husband, Charles, in bed with the event planner, Anna decides she needs to get away and has her best friend help her do it. She goes to Claire's brother place out on the islands, to try to get her mind together and decide what to do. What she doesn't expect is to find hope, herself, great sex, and maybe a future with someone who sees her for herself and likes it.
This story unfortunately ends with a cliffhanger, but everything that leads up to it is wonderful! I love Johnny, and I can identify with Anna(belle) and her cheating husband situation.
18+ for adult situations and language
