My rating: 4 of 5 stars
When a drunk driver wipes out Kat's family in one hit, she's left picking up the pieces of her life. In order to cope, she begins writing books. During an attempt to pull herself out a deep depression, meets up with her childhood crush, Rey. Rey has been in the military and was on leave in Portugal when he finally was reunited with his childhood crush. They both decide to take a chance and try to give their continuing attraction a chance. Kat is broken but after five years maybe its time to move on.
This was a heartbreaking story, the kind of tragedy you never want to endure, but out of the pain a love grew stronger than the one that came before. "Unexpected Surprises" made my cry for Kat, but I also cheered for her when she fell into Rey's arms. I smiled at their happy ending, and prayed for a miracle for them.
For me the only drawback to this book was I don't like to be told every step they make, such as" I picked up a glass and placed it on the counter." A little less of that and I would give it 5 stars.
