Review: In Bed with Mr. Wrong

In Bed with Mr. Wrong In Bed with Mr. Wrong by Katee Robert
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When the new librarian, Bri, is set up on a blind date with the Sheriff's hero brother, Ryan, it quickly becomes the blind date from hell. It all goes bad from the moment she answers the door and he stands there in silence, she assumes he's not interested and becomes the catty, mousey librarian from hell. Ryan thinks he must've been conned by his brother, but when he drops her off and they're spouting all kinds of trash to one another she calls his bluff and kisses him, from that moment forward things become combustible but moments later turn to ice. They both get conned and stranded in a cabin alone by his brother and girlfriend and forced to either work it out or kill each other.

I really loved this book from beginning to end and have added Katee Robert to my list of fave authors! Sexy, bitchy, steamy as hell..... yep loved it!

Review: Skeleton Cat

Skeleton Cat Skeleton Cat by Kristyn Crow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Skeleton Cat" is an awesomely illustrated children's book about a cat who by a flash of lightening is given a 10th life to live. As a skeleton he decides to do the one thing he always wanted to- play drums! The ghosts in the graveyard say he can't do it because he's only a skeleton, but he sets out to give it his best shot. Through rhyming sing son g storytelling this story was just as enjoyable to read as it was to look at the illustrations. We'll be reading this one for a few more years. I bought my copy from Scholastic school book order, but you can get a copy on Amazon.

Review: Hot Rod Hamster and the Haunted Halloween Party!

Hot Rod Hamster and the Haunted Halloween Party! Hot Rod Hamster and the Haunted Halloween Party! by Cynthia Lord
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was our first Hot Rod Hamster book and it was cute. My fist grader liked it, but is used to reading more advanced books. I felt it was lower than second grade and more appropriate for pre-k through 1st grade. I bought this from Scholastic before Halloween just to have a Halloween read aloud book.

Review: Ghost In The Garden

Ghost In The Garden Ghost In The Garden by Gail Herman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When the gang stop at Farmer's Fran's for some veggies they find out she's all out of veggies. Fran thinks it's a ghost stealing them because she hears strange sounds and a flash of white everytime. But is it a ghost or is there another reason for the missing veggies?

I found this to be just an ok story, made much more enjoyable by the fact that Scooby is in it. The kids liked it, but I found it a bit blah.

I couldn't find a listing on Amazon for this so I didn't post the review there or post a buy link.

When the gang find out their favorite donut place, "Doodles Donuts", is going out of business because of donut theft they decide to try to get to the bottom of the mystery. The owner, Dora, promises them all the donuts they can eat if they solve the mystery.

My kids liked this of course because of Scooby and the gang. I used this as a quick read aloud before bedtime and its part of a 10 pack of Readers that I bought from Scholastic.

Review: The Haunted Ski Lodge

The Haunted Ski Lodge The Haunted Ski Lodge by Gail Herman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Mystery Inc. gang head out to do some skiing and in typical Shaggy and Scooby fashion they only have food on their minds. When they get lost after jumping off the ski lift they find their way to a lodge that has creepy sounds and what appears to be ghosts or monsters. Can Scooby and Shaggy figure it out? Of course they can!

My kids liked this book and I like it because of Scooby! It's an easy ready for advanced kindergarten through 2nd grade. It's technically a Level 2 reader, but to my advanced 1st grader it was too easy, but still enjoyable. My advanced 3rd grader enjoyed it for Scooby and the mystery, and read aloud time.

Review: The Apple Thief

The Apple Thief The Apple Thief by Gail Herman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The gang heads out to pick apples and Shaggy and Scooby are competing against Fred, Daphne, and Velma for picking the most apples. They pick tons of apples but find their bucket empty, is someone or something stealing them? We know that they'll figure it and hopefully win the apple picking competition!

"The Apple Thief" is another selection from the 10 pack of books I bought from Scholastic and is a level 2 reader. Since we share a love Scooby Doo and the gang these are fun read louds, especially when I do Scooby's voice. On the downside, this is probably my least favorite of the Scooby Doo readers books to date. However my kids liked it.

Review: Scooby-Doo Reader #3: Howling on the Playground

Scooby-Doo Reader #3: Howling on the Playground Scooby-Doo Reader #3: Howling on the Playground by Gail Herman

When the gang try to help build a playground next to a ladies house she tries to scare them away saying that there are werewolves there. They decide to hang out in the playground that night to see if they can find the source, and by the end the mystery is solved.

This is a purchase from Scholastic from kids school book order, and part of a 10 pack of Scooby books I bought. We love Scooby and the gang so we enjoy this short easy readers. In my opinion its good for a quick bedtime story or read alone. And I admit I have to read Scooby's comments in his voice, lol.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

My kids and I love Scooby Doo so its' the reason I bought the 10 pack of these books from Scholastic. They're easy readers for my advanced reader kids, but amusing enough for a quick read through at bedtime.

In this book the Mystery Machine breaks down near a spooky castle that seems to have all kinds of weird things happening at it. Spooky knights guarding the doors, a witch in the kitchen, a vampire chasing them. Will they find out what's actually going on? Of course they will..... Shaggy and Scooby always do!

Review: Toward the Sunrise

Toward the Sunrise Toward the Sunrise by Elizabeth Camden
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After Julia gets thrown out of medical school for stealing a dog that she had healed , she goes to the attorney that controls the estate that her family has lived on forever. Ashton can't believe that she threw away her opportunity to become a doctor after all he did to make sure that her schooling was provided for, and therefore refuses to help her. So she returns home to find that there is no room for her anymore in the little cabin with her brother and his set of twins. She decides to assist the neighbor with his goat farm and the birthing of tons of baby goats, this is where Ashton finds her when he is sent to retrieve her. Is it possible that she will refuse to go back to medical school and become a vet? Will they be able to deny the growing feelings they have for one another? Will Ashton lose his job if she doesn't go back to school?

This was a sweet historical romance novella that has brought back the struggles of a bygone era of few female doctors and the stringent rules that they had to abide by. It also brought the story of Ashton the attorney and his struggle to become more than just an attorney in the forefront of the Industrial Revolution.

Review: The Eyes Die Last

The Eyes Die Last The Eyes Die Last by Teri Riggs
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"The Eyes Die Last" is a suspenseful read that takes place in Las Vegas. During a high profile Mayoral election between two former best friends, Nick and Louis, someone decides to start killing prostitutes and forwarding the "after" pictures to a local tv station. The main topic of the election just so happens to be prostitution: Nick wants to legalize it so the city can regulate it and make a profit from it, and Louis wants to abolish its disgusting practice. Kennedy and Wilder are put on the case to solve the murders but the main suspects are the candidates themselves. She also has to deal with the growing attraction she has for Nick while trying to prove her case for murder. The pressure builds more and more as more bodies appear, and the city knows it has a serial killer on its hands.

This was such a page turning addicting read! The characters are well defined and interesting enough that you want to really get in to the story and solve the murders before someone else gets hurt. There were more details that threw you off the killers trail, so that the murderer was a surprise in the end.

While waiting for her flight she meets a gorgeous guy who happens to be heading her way. She also finds herself sitting by her favorite romance writer! Review: Bad Boy of New Orleans

Bad Boy of New Orleans Bad Boy of New Orleans by Mallory Rush
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Bad Boy of New Orleans" by Mallory Rush is a 1990's romance book that takes place in New Orleans. Micah, a girl who came from old family money, and Chance, the son of the housekeeper. The grew up together, but when it became obvious that there was more growing between them Micah's family ran Chance off. Micah never got over Chance and ended up marrying a man who gambled away her fortune, and Chance finally showed up to find out she didn't wait for him and was now in dire straits because of her choice. Can they work through their issues and save the love they once had for one another, or is it too late?

There is not a lot of connection between the characters that warms you to their plight, which is a bit disappointing; but overall its a good story for the 90's. Pretty typical of 90's romance novels. I rated it based on the genre, time period written, and overall story.

Review: Blood Destiny

Blood Destiny Blood Destiny by Tessa Dawn

Tessa Dawn's book "Blood Destiny" is book one in the "Blood Curse Destiny" series. When Jocelyn Levi, a cop, takes a vacation from homeland security, she heads out chasing a human trafficking ring off record from the authorities. What she finds is a centuries old blood curse that terrifies her beyond words, so when Nathaniel Silivasi finds her in his valley she's terrified of him, when simultaneous the moon reveals that she is his destiny, the woman meant to bear his vampire children and save him from the Blood Curse. Jocelyn can't deny the initial attraction to him, but doesn't know who to trust after this frightening revelation.

You'll find family dynamics, magic, werewolves, vampire hunters, good vampires, evil vampires, romance, and kick ass action in this book. There is a bit of sex to this and lots of violence that is important to the story. I was recommended this story by Promoting Authors, Books & Reviews :https://www.facebook.com/Promoting-Au... And told I would be addicted to it.... well I am I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!!

Review: Summer of the Sea Serpent

Summer of the Sea Serpent Summer of the Sea Serpent by Mary Pope Osborne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Summer of the Sea Serpent" is book number 31 in the Magic Treehouse series, and just as enjoyable as the other books in the series. My 5 year old checked this out of the library at school and read it alone, then we read it together with his 8 yr. old sibling. I enjoyed the story as much as they did. and recommend this series to other parents as a lower grade introduction to mystical, magical, mythical reading books.

Review: Taking Chances: a Paranormal Investigation novel

Taking Chances: a Paranormal Investigation novel Taking Chances: a Paranormal Investigation novel by Rita Webb
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Taking Chances" is book three in the Paranormal Investigations series, and it doesn't disappoint. Emma is back home after her sister Angelina's disappearance. Jason started his own kayak/hiking tour business, but before he can open the doors officially the store gets broken into. New strange people moving in town, and girls coming up missing are just the beginning of the weird happenings. And among all that, is the growing realization that Jason and Emma are attracted to one another.

I love this series and I really hope it doesn't plan on ending anytime soon! All kids of paranormal creatures abound, among well thought out characters and story lines keep this book interesting. In every book the plot thickens about Drakon and the Rune Dragons.

Review: Order of The Dimensions

Order of The Dimensions Order of The Dimensions by Irene Helenowski
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Irene Helenowski has created a complicated story of multi-dimensional travel in "Order of the Dimensions". An interesting tale of Anton, an ex-KGB agent, who wants to put everyone where he thinks they deserve to be in order to make a New World Order under his control. Jane is a Physics grad student who helps her professor with his Multiverser machine that allows travel between the dimensions. Anton kidnaps her and wrecks havoc with her family and with all of those involved in all the dimensions.

I found the story line intriguing and was excited to start reading it, but like other awesome sci-fi stories the writing leans more to a drier cerebral writing as opposed to an emotional read. Unfortunately that makes it harder to connect to the characters on a deeper level. I enjoyed the story a lot, but longed for the connection with Jane and her plight, and with Anton and his evil plan. I feel like this would make an exciting movie conversion.

Review: Still Mine

Still Mine Still Mine by Natalie Wild
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

"Still Mine" by Natalie Wild is a story about Jemma and Travis, who had an exciting side relationship while she was dating someone else. Instead of leaving the other guy, who seemed safe, she dumped Travis who would do anything for her. After a divorce two kids later, she moves to a new town and new job to start over. But who does she run into one snowy morning? Travis, the man she could never forget, the man who filled all her thoughts and dreams. Is there a chance to start over with him or did she ruin her chances for good?

Honestly I have no idea, this book was only 20 something pages and ends on a cliffhanger. Just when you start to connect a little with the characters and it starts to lead into something, it ends.

Review: The Best Halloween Ever

The Best Halloween Ever The Best Halloween Ever by Barbara Robinson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"The Best Halloween Ever" by Barbara Robinson is book three in the books about the Herdman family and their antics. This Halloween instead of all the kids trick or treating and getting their candy stolen by the Herdman's the school PTA decides to do the party at the school. The Herdman's think they're too cool for the party so all the other students are looking forward to a "Herdman free" Halloween even if their parents will be there too. Then weird things start happening and kids go missing.

Review: Barely Alive

Barely Alive Barely Alive by Bonnie R. Paulson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Paul's a high school senior who gets into a fight with his mom and runs away. While on the streets he meets up with Tom, who is seems to know how he feels and encourages him to join him and a group of boys. Everything's cool in the beginning, he gets to do what he wants and go wherever, but that ends with Dominic, who runs the group, shoots him up with a virus. Dominic only cares about himself and creating more zombies. Regretting his actions, Paul realizes he only has 12 weeks before his body is completely deteriorated. He continues to try to hold onto his humanity and hopefully find a cure for the zombiesm, while slowly falling for Heather, a girl that he and the guys kidnapped.

This is a great book and I love this take on zombies keeping there human side while fighting off their need for meat! Paul is a good looking athletic teen with heart and you have to like him. The other characters are very real and the story line just pulls you in.

This is part of a trilogy and this is book 1 of the Barely Alive series. The story continues with Falling Apart and Mostly Dead.

Review: Viral Intent

Viral Intent Viral Intent by Bonnie R. Paulson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Viral Intent" is the prequel to the Barely Alive series by Bonnie R. Paulson, and explains the whole start to the Zombie infection. I think it's better to read the series first and come back to this one, rather than start here and move through the books. This is a short read of about 30 pages or less.

Dominic was a scientist intent on curing his father of Lou Gehrig's disease, but through a set of uncontrollable circumstances he was set on a different path. Like the saying goes "The path to hell is paved with good intentions."

Review: Mostly Dead

Mostly Dead Mostly Dead by Bonnie R. Paulson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Mostly Dead" by Bonnie Paulson is the conclusion to the Barely Alive series, and has been an exciting read. Paul when faced with his need to feed more often has to make hard choices in order to protect those he loves. Will he be able to stop the psycho that is Dominic and his evil plan to destroy mankind? Are people really inherently good and able to resist their primal urges or will they all fail to resist the temptation of the flesh?

"Mostly Dead" is an exciting read from beginning to end that will keep you glued to eat until the last line is read! I was so surprised at how when everything is falling apart, then all the pieces click together and start going right. I don't want to give away the ending, but it was surprising yet satisfying.

Review: Falling Apart

Falling Apart Falling Apart by Bonnie R. Paulson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Falling Apart" by Bonnie Paulson is book two in the Barely Alive series that takes us into a crazed world where a power hungry psychotic scientist turns young men and boys into flesheating cannibals and sex addicted walking dead. This story picks up where book one leaves off at Grandma Jeans's hiding out, Paul fighting his attraction and craving for Heather, Connie and Travis trying to develop a cure, and Dominic trying to steal Heather away. When a neighbor stops by for a visit Heather goes with him to get some supplies but ends up being kidnapped by Brian, the neighbor. In a race across town and state lines, Paul and his brother try to save Heather before Dominic can get his hands on her.

I really love this series that mixes my love of Zombies, romance, angst, and sci-fi. Poor Paul is tortured by his craving for love and the flesh, and his pending mortality.

Review: The Upheaval

The Upheaval The Upheaval by Erica Stevens
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"The Upheaval" by Erica Stevens starts out like an ordinary day for all the characters involved and soon evolves into their worst nightmare. Birds fall to their death by the droves, animals hold mass suicides, craters form everywhere, the sun is blocked out, and a tsunami forms. Mass hysteria and death is everywhere, who do you trust? Is this the end of the world? Or the end as we know it? What caused this Aliens? What are their chances of survival? Facing an unknown is hard for anyone, much less when the world is falling apart too!

I was sucked into this realistic tale of cataclysmic proportions and left wondering what will be come of our survivors, unfortunately this is only the first book in the series so I must continue on my journey along with them and praying that they find the strength to continue on. I really liked the characters, but was sad to experience their losses and feel they reacted as anyone would in the circumstances. I'm really curious to find out what caused this destruction in the world, and to find out how far this destruction extends.
