Review: Blindsided

Blindsided Blindsided by Emma Hart
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Leah Veronica is a closet fashion designer with a line of clothes under the name Lea V., who's trying to avoid getting famous riding on her mom's acting fame. Corey is a football player who hits on her one night at a club or party or something like that, and she doesn't jump at the chance to have him in her panties which intrigues him. After trying to avoid him, Lea finally gives in finally allows him to have one week to convince her she should date him. In a week you can fall in love or fall apart.

This was not a favorite book for me. I thought the characters were very shallow and annoying. Lea thinking she could hide her identity by using Lea V. as a brand name practically screamed that she was the creator. Also, Leah thinking that her whole world was falling apart because it leaked out was ridiculous. Corey was also shallow and being from Dallas ,Texas called her "Darlin" for the first few chapters every time he spoke to her. Being from Texas myself, I have never heard one 20-something guy call a woman "Darlin" even once, much less half a dozen times. Plus it seems the only football terminology the author knew was "interception", perhaps if Leah was a big a fan of football as she was touted to be she should've learned a few more words. With all that being said, the book is not horrible but it's not the best I've read this year either. Which is sad for me since I own a signed book purchased from an author event.

Review: Hula

Hula Hula by Lisa Shea
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can't say where I picked up this book, because I have no idea but it is a hauntingly realistic story about two young girls growing up in the 1960's. Their mom is a costume designer who works all the time, and their dad is suffering from severe PTSD. This story is written from the youngest girls perspective and almost reads like a factual account of her youth. Life was very different in the 60's and 70's than it is today and if you want a flashback into what it once was then this might be an interesting place to start.

It appears the author Lisa Shea has not written any more books, but I would be interested in finding out more about her.

Review: Floors

Floors Floors by Patrick Carman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked up this book at a thrift store for my boys with no idea about the story inside, and I'm so happy I did! This was a fun wacky adventure for my sons that kept them interested all the way to the end. I had to order the next two books in the series for them too.

After the owner of the Whippet Hotel has been gone for 100 days, Leo and his father the hotel maintenance man start to get worried. When a colored box shows up for Leo in the duck elevator (yes it is only used to transport ducks) his discovery of the hidden floors of the Whippet Hotel starts! Then comes the puzzles to solve and a friendship with Remi the new doorman, and then trying to avoid Ms. Sparks the hotel manager with a mean streak. Very exciting indeed!
Great book for elementary students.

Review: Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Behind Closed Doors" by B.A. Paris is a chilling story about the perfect marriage, well at least from the outside looking in. Perfect loving husband and adoringly perfect wife, but what you find out behind the scenes is pure fear for Grace and Jack just loves it all the more. If it were only Grace to worry about she could handle it, but her autistic little sister is planning to move with them when she graduates. I can only imagine the terror that Jack could inflict on Millie if he got his hands on her!
If you love psychological thrillers, then this book is sure to be a favorite of yours!

Remember the grass isn't always greener on the other side!!!

18+ for situations. The book does have possible triggers for victims of abuse/kidnapping.

"Behind Closed Doors" was provided to me by St. Martin's Press in exchange for my honest review, all thoughts and words are purely my own and no one else's.

This book releases in the US on August 9th!

Review: Splintered

Splintered Splintered by Kelly Miller
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Splintered" by Kelly Miller is a psychological thriller about Maddy a 15-year-old girl who fakes an attempted kidnapping, but then regrets it when she gets bullied at school by her peers. So when she really gets kidnapped the police think she ran away and hesitate to believe it's real after wasting so many man hours the previous time. Hank has psycho DNA running through his veins but kept it locked away in order to take care of his mentally challenged brother, but when he sees Maddy on the evening news he can resist no longer.... he has to have her to "train".

"Splintered" to me is a modern retelling of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" but with a teenage girl and a psycho instead. Those who usually fake a situation find themselves in that predicament for real. The characters are realistic of portrayals of people who could be family, friends, or neighbors. And the crime committed could've been ripped from today's news. A scary situation that I hope no one has to go through. Overall, I enjoyed this book and I thank KindleScout for giving me the opportunity to review it.
There are lots of triggers here for anyone who has been kidnapped or had an abusive upbringing.
18+ for adult situations and abuse

Review: Deep Blue

Deep Blue Deep Blue by Yolanda Olson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Deep Blue" by Yolanda Olson is a twisted, trigger ridden, psychotic read. This is not a book for those looking for a happy ever after. It has a touch of twisted love story but mostly filled with depravity that's like a train wreck to read. You want to look away but it sucks you in and you have to find out how ends. On that note, I really enjoyed this book and its twisted storyline.

Posy is a 17-year-old runaway who hooks up with Troy a twenty-something hottie with the deepest blue eyes she's ever seen. Unfortunately for her he and others in town trade girls/young women amongst other like minded men for anything their twisted minds can think up. As soon he gets his hands on her he immediately trades her for another girl until she's appropriately ready for him. Unknownst to her he suffers from a traumatic brain injury that causes him to fluctuate between sweet cowboy and sadistic maniac. Seven years later he goes to collect her and then it gets even worse.
