Review: Breathless

Breathless Breathless by Becki Brannen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Breathless" by Becki Brannen is about Carly a new attorney who while out shopping at a local mall has an asthma attack. The last face she see's while frantically looking for her inhaler is Ryan's, a movie star in town filming and also known for his womanizing ways. There's something different about Carly that draws him, the fact that she has no idea who he is! He decides to take the attraction as far as it can go, but how far could that be when the paparazzi are always vying for his attention?

This is a sweet average girl meets celebrity romance. One that will remind you of those teenage dreams you had of growing up and marrying a very hot movie star. It could happen! (wink)

Review: Home for Christmas

Home for Christmas Home for Christmas by Lia Fairchild
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

After Stephen's Mom passed away, the holidays have always been hard for him, so when a chance meeting with a bar waitress sparks something in him he can't help himself. Ali, a waitress at a local bar doesn't have time to deal with romance because she's tied up with dealing with her loved ones illness. When the two meet its hard to deny the interest, but no way it can be acted on at the moment because Stephen found out Ali is married. Can he hold out until her husband passes or is he making a mistake?

This is a very sweet story with a twist for an ending that will leave you smiling and glad you read it! It's short, about 30 pages so great for a light read.
I couldn't find the ebook link for it, but here's the Audible link:

Review: Black Soul

Black Soul Black Soul by Kiru Taye
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Black Soul" by Kiru Taye is a great beginning to what promises to be a great series about Guardians. Tara's working as an attorney and has spent a millenium being punished by the Council, for things she knows nothing about. M'na has been bonded to Tara for the same amount of time, but is not allowed to tell her anything unless the time of her punishment is completed.

I really liked this prequel, and found it to be way too short so I was hoping that I could download book one. I found that the author has not published any more books in this series after a year. Hopefully, she will soon.

Review: Protecting Summer

Protecting Summer Protecting Summer by Susan Stoker
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Susan Stoker has created another Seal novel that sweeps you off your feet. "Protecting Summer" starts off with Mozart heading out to look for the man that killed his little sister and checks in to a crappy motel where Summer is working cleaning the lodges. She catches his eye when she stand up for him when 3 women insult him after seeing his scar on his face. He notices she's pretty but in need of a good meal. He finds himself really enjoying her company over dinner and wants to talk more to her than bed her and leave; very unlike his other conquests of f-them and leave them. Instead of indulging in meaningless sex, he walks away knowing that he's going a mission and promises to be back. Unfortunately like some men he ignores his feelings and doesn't return for 2 months. After his team push him to go back he's appalled at her situation and moves to remedy it, and again he heads out on a mission. Summer gets kidnapped while he's gone and the whole team head out to save her!

Some may find it hard to believe that Mozart might deny his feelings for a few months before returning, but a lot of men don't know how to deal with those kid of emotions especially when they have always treated women as "holes" for their enjoyment. I didn't find Summer weak, but independent and not listening to her own intuition on many subjects but in the end proved her strength when it counted. I love this series very much and can't wait to read "Protecting Cheyenne".

Review: Peter Pan

Peter Pan Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Surprisingly this was my first time reading "Peter Pan" and what better way to read it than aloud with your children. It was a grand adventure to all of us, and definitely worth reading again.

Wendy and her brothers are fast asleep while their parents are at a party down the road and usually protected by their dog "Nana". The maid disapproved of dogs in the house and chained her outside away from her charges. Meanwhile, Peter Pan lured them away with dreams of mermaids, pirates, and tons of adventure. Adventure is exactly what they got in return too; Captain Hook, the Injuns, and Tinkerbell's antics.

What a wonderful story for all ages!

Review: Damaged Perfection

Damaged Perfection Damaged Perfection by Nicki Rae
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved "Damaged Perfection" by Nicki Rae up until the cliffhanger, and then I hated her for leaving me hanging without answers for Piper and Fent's relationship!!! Ok maybe hate is too strong a word, but I don't like cliffhangers and this really does leave you hanging with no final answers. Luckily book two "Resisting Perfection" is already out, so now I can get my Piper and Fent fix!

This is a sexy read, despite the fact that Fent is broken from blame in his past that rests on his shoulders. Piper is just the one to reach in and smooth out the rough places. Their chemistry from the start is so erotic that it pulls you in and makes you want to read form start to finish.

Review: Hike Up Devil's Mountain

Hike Up Devil's Mountain Hike Up Devil's Mountain by Penny Estelle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Hike Up Devil's Mountain" by Penny Estelle was a short intriguing story that I read to my boys. They were glued to the story from beginning to end, as was I.

What child listens to their parents when told not to do something? When told not to go in a house set for demolition, Andy ventures into the house anyway where he later runs into the towns newcomers aka the town bullies. During a scuffle Andy locates a glowing stick and accidentally turns one into a rat! In order to cure him they go up Devil's Mountain to find the witch who used to live in the house.

What a great adventure story for children with a moral to it. I recommend this as a read aloud for ages 5-8, and as a read alone for older children or adults.

I was gifted this book by the author in return for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and no one else's.

Review: The Luck of the Irish

The Luck of the Irish The Luck of the Irish by Ginger Voight
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A few days before St. Patrick's Day, Siobahn Flannery, a burned out NYC barmaid, gets a surprising customer.... a Leprechaun. Ok maybe he's only a man dressed as one, but at the end of every night he leaves her a gold coin to for this exhausted waitress means a magical journey with hopefully a happy ending.

I found "The Luck of the Irish" to be an amusing romantic story with a happy ending. If you're looking for a cute St. Patrick's read then this one is a good one to pick up.

Review: Mr.Paris: Erotic Billionaires

Mr.Paris: Erotic Billionaires Mr.Paris: Erotic Billionaires by Dixie Foxx
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

"Mr. Paris" is book one in what will obviously be a multi part series for every city that she has a man. Scarlet is bored with her dead end job and decides to use her looks and start selling her body on the internet to carefully screened men around the world. She gets a week all expense vacation in an exotic location with a sexy man, and they get 1 night of hot sex with her.

Andre, Mr. Paris, sounds like a very wealthy man who goes out of his way to make sure she has a wonderful stay in Paris at his expense, and in return has a marathon of "o's" with her. What girl wouldn't want to fantasize about having sexy men, hot sex, and a wonderful vacation? The only problem with this book is that it's too short and there's too little character development to actually care about the story.

I got my copy free on Amazon but it's now $2.99 for 30 pages:

Review: Gateway to Fourline

Gateway to Fourline Gateway to Fourline by Pam Brondos
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"Gateway to Fourline" by Pam Brondos is about an alternate world called "Fourline" that can be reached through a portal in a costume shop. When Natalie, a college student, needs a job to help pay her tuition after her Dad's accident she goes to work at the costume shop. She doesn't expect to find a hodge podge of people there like she does, and especially royalty from another realm. Estos and his friends barely escaped with their lives after his sister was murdered and have been trying to build a rebellion since it happened. They chose Natalie to send a message back for them and it leads to more adventure and danger than she expected. Is she up for the challenge or is she doomed to fail? With blue spider like creatures and other dangers around, it makes it hard to know who to trust.

I found this to be a good book, a little slow at the start but then moved into some exciting moments in the middle. I liked the scientific/fantasy concepts thrown in and the touch of romance at the end. I felt that the characters needed a touch more of something.... I neither liked them or hated them. Will I read book two? Absolutely, this story can only get better as it goes along.

Review: Watch Me Burn

Watch Me Burn Watch Me Burn by Sharon Bayliss
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Watch Me Burn" is book two in the December People series by Sharon Bayliss. It follows the Vandergraff family and their assimilation into their true selves, wizards. In this book a girl goes missing that Emmy went to Volleyball camp with and David seems to see her face everywhere. It also turns out that Julie is a Summer wizard, and that makes this all the more complicated. Julie's family, the Prescotts, seem bound and determined to destroy the Vandergraffs and all they stand for, but why? The truth reveals itself and is even more sinister that can be imagined.

I love this series and that it has brought wizardry into the modern world in a way that makes you question your world and how you see it as a Mundane. There also seems to be some morals that come into question and lots of family dynamics that lead people on the path to destruction. I highly recommend this young adult series if you're into the paranormal or believe in magic or sorcery.

I bought a paperback at a book event, but here's a link to Amazon for the ebook:

"Secret Lives" is a sexy, steamy, intriguing collection of short naughty paranormal stories that are sure to set the imagination on fire. I didn't read the blurb about this before opening it, but had already downloaded to my kindle from awhile back. I'm so glad I read it though.... this has some very steamy moments wishing my hubby had been home and not out of town at the time. ;-) Also I found this to be a great introduction to some new to me writers that has me wanting to read more of their stories!

Review: EllRay Jakes Walks the Plank

EllRay Jakes Walks the Plank EllRay Jakes Walks the Plank by Sally Warner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When EllRay Jakes takes his new class mascot "Zip", the goldfish, home to take care of him over Spring Break his little sister accidentally overfeeds him and he ends up floating in the bowl. When Monday comes around he has to figure out a way to to tell his class that he killed Zip and hopefully they won't hate him. As the week goes on things seem to go from bad to worse, and Ellray continues to think of himself as the "Class Messup". Will he ever be anything more than a kid who constantly makes mistakes?

My kids and I enjoyed reading this book from Scholastic. It was our first EllRay Jakes book and I'm sure it won't be our last. I loved that it ended with a moral that actually fit my kids current situation.
