"Fifty Percent Vampire" is a different take on the whole vampire story. Astrid is born to a human and a vampire, but her father dies while trying to reclaim the family fortune. Her mother tries to raise her solo but ends up marrying her brother in law in order to protect Astrid from other vampires out to destroy her uniqueness. Astrid has her heart set on trying out "being human" and moves in with her Aunt, cousin, and Uncle, all goes well until her fellow high school students start turning up dead with two puncture wounds in their necks. She has a crush on the local "hero" cop Mike, but she's too young for him so he tries to stay away. Her name keeps popping into every investigation he has until he has to question whether she's the one doing it or not!
I enjoyed "Fifty Percent Vampire" and its different way of telling a story about a girl who grows older like a human, but drinks blood like a Vamp. Astrid was angsty but very real in her pain of being bullied and trying to fit in. I also thought I knew who was behind the killings but was pleasantly surprised by the outcome.
